According to a report on NFL Network, the Pittsburgh Steelers are expected to consider reuniting Tannehill with former Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. “With new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, the expectation is Pittsburgh will explore adding free agent Ryan Tannehill, who had his best years with the Titans while Smith was the OC there,” The NFL Insiders Said.

Tannehill, 35, played for the Titans for the past five seasons. Before that, he played for the Miami Dolphins for six years. During his time with the Titans, Tannehill has started 63 games and won 39. He was instrumental in leading the Titans to the playoffs for three consecutive seasons from 2019 to 2021. Tannehill’s first two playoff seasons were with Smith as the Titans’ offensive coordinator. In 2019, Ryan Tannehill started as a backup but eventually took over Marcus Mariota’s starting position. He played 12 games, including 10 starts, and threw for 2,742 yards, 22 touchdowns, and only six interceptions. Tannehill’s contribution helped the Tennessee Titans reach their first AFC Championship Game since 2002. The following season, Tannehill had a career-high 33 touchdowns and only seven interceptions, completing 65.5% of his passes for 3,819 yards.

Last season, Tannehill completed 64.8 percent of his passes for 1,616 yards, four touchdowns, and seven picks in 10 games and eight starts. Tannehill struggled with injuries and eventually lost the starting job to rookie Will Levis. It seems unlikely that the Tennessee Titans will re-sign Tannehill, given that his name did not come up in new coach Brian Callahan’s introductory press conference. Everything suggests that Levis is the team’s quarterback of the future. However, it is possible that Smith’s coaching could unlock something in Tannehill, making this a mutually beneficial arrangement for all parties involved.
