Eagles give top pass rusher permission to seek a trade
Haason Reddick, a second-team All-Pro in 2022 whose play slipped this past season along with the rest of the defense, has received permission to seek a trade from the Philadelphia Eagles, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday, per sources.
Reddick has spent the last two seasons with the Eagles, after playing his first four years with the Arizona Cardinals and one season with the Carolina Panthers in 2021. He played his college ball at Temple University.
In his two years in Philadelphia, he’s finished with 27 sacks and was twice named to the Pro Bowl.
During his first season with the Eagles, he finished tied Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett for the second-most sacks in the NFL (16 sacks) and led all defensive players with five forced fumbles, one of the reasons that Philadelphia reached Super Bowl LVII.
In 2023, he finished with 11 sacks, 23 quarterback hits and 13 tackles for loss for an Eagles defense that fell from second in yards allowed and eighth in points in 2022 to 26th in yards allowed and 30th in points the following season.
Reddick will turn 30 in September. He’s entering the final year of a three-year, $45 million contract he signed in March 2022 and seemed unhappy even last year with his deal, deciding to skip voluntary OTAs.
If he goes, it will mean the Eagles will have lost their two best pass rushers in the span of a year, having watched Jason Hargrave sign with the 49ers after last season.
Per the site bleedinggreennation.com, the remaining edge rushers under contract would include Josh Sweat, Nolan Smith, Patrick Johnson, Tarron Jackson and Terrell Lewis.
