Even though they have had back-to-back chaotic and disappointing seasons, the Las Vegas Raiders may have a glimmer of hope moving forward.
They have a new permanent head coach in Antonio Pierce, who their players love and believe in, not to mention stars in wide receiver Davante Adams and defensive end Maxx Crosby.
It seems all they may need to return to the playoffs is a competent quarterback.
Mina Kimes, per NFL on ESPN, said that Kirk Cousins would be a good fit for the Raiders as they could realistically afford to pay him what he demands on the open market.
Cousins is 35 years of age and coming off a torn Achilles he suffered at midseason, and one naturally has to wonder how well he will be able to play once he returns from his injury.
But if he will be even close to the same player, he could give Las Vegas a definite stud under center.
He was named to the Pro Bowl in three of the previous four seasons, and in 2022 he threw for 4,547 yards and 29 touchdowns.
He was on his way to another outstanding year in 2023 by notching 2,331 passing yards and 18 passing touchdowns in eight games before going down with that torn Achilles.
The Raiders brought in veteran QB Jimmy Garoppolo last offseason, but he was a big disappointment, and they benched him after Week 8.
He has now been suspended for two games for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances policy, and many expect Las Vegas to move on from him this offseason.
Behind him, they only have Aidan O’Connell, who had a disappointing rookie season.
