The Green Bay Packers Just Indicated They’re Moving On From Starter With 67 Career Games

Yosh Nijman

The Green Bay Packers are facing some tough decisions this off-season when it comes to their roster.  While 2023 proved to be an incredible building block for this franchise, there will certainly be some changes made.  That became even more evident today.

The Green Bay Packers Just Indicated They’re Ready To Move On From An Offensive Starter

If the Packers wanted to bring back Savage, Nijman, or Nixon for 2024 it would have been most cost effective to have extended them before their void provisions kicked in.

Extending would have saved:

  • -Savage: $4.1M
  • -Nijman: $1.9M
  • -Nixon: $1.1M

They didn’t – They are likely gone.

Yosh Nijman appears to be on his way out of Green Bay.  It would have made much more sense to extend their contract and avoid the dead cap hit if they intended on keeping him.   The veteran offensive lineman has been active for 67 games with Green Bay, starting 22 of them.

Packers reaping return on investment in Yosh Nijman

Last offseason, Nijman was signed as a restricted free agent, which paid him well below the market price for a borderline starting tackle. Due to the emergence of Zach Tom and Rasheed Walker, Nijman ended up acting as a swing tackle for most of 2023 . This was all because of left tackle David Bakhtiari missing all but one game last season. Because of Green Bay’s continuing cap crunch, it is safe to assume he’ll sign somewhere else in free agency.
