Cleveland Browns Should Trade For Quarterback Justin Fields From The Chicago Bears: ESPN Sports Analytics Writer Seth Walder

Justin Fields Reportedly Getting Trade Interest at 2024 Senior Bowl

ESPN sports analytics writer Seth Walder has suggested that the Cleveland Browns should trade for quarterback Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears, which would potentially end Deshaun Watson’s role as the Browns’ starting quarterback.

Walder recognizes that this idea may seem wild, but he believes the Browns should consider Watson a sunk cost and focus on upgrading their quarterback position.

Despite the ongoing allegations of sexual misconduct surrounding Watson, Browns general manager Andrew Berry has defended the decision to acquire him through a controversial trade with the Houston Texans.

While trading Watson this offseason is a financial possibility for the Browns, it is unlikely that they would demote him to a backup role in favor of an unproven quarterback like Fields, especially considering Watson’s lucrative contract.

Some experts believe that the Bears may draft USC Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams with their first overall pick due to Fields’ inability to solidify himself as a long-term NFL starter.

Other quarterback-needy teams like the Atlanta Falcons and Pittsburgh Steelers have also been linked to Fields in trade rumors, potentially competing with the Browns.

Neither Berry nor Stefanski have shown any indication of considering a move away from Watson, who has had limited playing time with the Browns in recent seasons.

Berry is likely relying on new offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey to help Watson rediscover his Pro Bowl form from his time with the Houston Texans, assuming Watson can provide more consistent starts next season.

Fans had this to say.

He proposes trading a second- or third-round pick for Fields, who is still on his rookie contract and could thrive in Cleveland’s offensive system under head coach Kevin Stefanski
