Thunder Superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Gives Back to Kentucky - Sports Illustrated Oklahoma City Thunder News, Analysis and More

The Oklahoma City Thunder have watched Shai Gilgeous-Alexander transform into a bona fide superstar. Making his second All-Star appearance, first start, just two weeks ago, Gilgeous-Alexander remains the leader in the clubhouse for the NBA’s Most Valuable Player Award.

The First-Team All-NBA guard is among a long line of Kentucky guards who have made a significant leap at the next level after laying their foundation at the University of Kentucky.

Gilgeous-Alexander sent a gift to the Kentucky Men’s Basketball program on Friday saying “Got a gift for my Kentucky Wildcats, both pairs of unreleased Converse [shoes] wish you guys the best of luck in March Madness, go get another banner.”

Wildcats head coach John Calipari reacted to the gift from the Thunder superstar by saying “You know, I’ve been proud of all these guys and what they have done. But for how hard [Shai Gilgeous-Alexander] worked, how committed he was, what a great teammate he was, Shai like that has become like the MVP of the NBA,”

“He has earned every step, and when you earn it, you can not take it away. He owns it now, who he is, why he is the way he is, even the way he dresses, he owns it.” Calipari continued.

The Wildcats sit at 20-8 this season, and ride a two game winning streak into the month of March.
