On Tuesday night, North Carolina head basketball coach Hubert Davis was in Kentucky to watch four-star class of 2025 7-foot-1 center Malachi Moreno. Moreno, who does not yet hold a UNC offer, finished the game with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Tar Heels assistant coach Sean May followed up Tuesday’s visit with another viewing on Wednesday.

King Bacot, younger brother of UNC basketball big man Armando Bacot, is only a seventh-grader. Rankings for his 2029 class won’t arrive for quite some time. Nevertheless, the 6-foot-2 guard is drawing praise from those who have checked out his budding skills. Some have even opined he’s on pace to become the premier recruit in his class.

NIL nightmare? Ian Jackson signs with adidas

Here is when it gets interesting with NIL. On Wednesday, 5-star UNC Basketball signee Ian Jackson entered into an agreement with adidas to utilize their name-image-likeness as a brand ambassador. No matter what Jackson is paid by adidas, he cannot wear their shoes or apparel when he is on the court for the Tar Heels, because UNC is a Nike school.

UNC Basketball signee, All-American Drake Powell shines on Senior Night

On Tuesday, 5-star recruit, Northwood High School All-American, and UNC Basketball signee Drake Powell put on a show, beating Chatham Central, 69-48. Powell dropped 14 points, including a monster jam, to propel his team to their eighth win in a row. While his point tally does not stand out, he finished with the majority of his team’s assists and rebounds.

UNC a “serious threat” to lure 5-star guard Isiah Harwell away from Gonzaga

Class of 2025 five-star guard Isiah Harwell already has been on campus in Chapel Hill for a multi-day unofficial visit and is expected to return for an official visit in the future. If such a trip takes place, it seems possible that North Carolina will pull even with Gonzaga at the top of Harwell’s recruitment. Harwell has called North Carolina a “dream school.”

Ian Jackson named a semifinalist for Naismith Player of the Year

As of this week’s announcement, Our Saviour Lutheran (N.Y.) five-star guard and North Carolina signee Ian Jackson is among the 10 Naismith Boys’ High School Player of the Year Semifinalists. Since its inception in 1987, the Naismith has only once gone to a future North Carolina basketball talent: Latta (S.C.) five-star guard Raymond Felton in 2002.

UNC Basketball Signee James Brown Steps Up Recruiting Efforts

James Brown, the No. 71 overall basketball recruit on the 247Sports 2024 Composite rankings, committed to the University of North Carolina Tar Heels in January of 2023. Over a year later, the 6-foot-9, 210-pound four-star is pushing to get one of his five-star Link Academy (Missouri) teammates, sharpshooting guard Jasper Johnson, to do the same.

Five-star Caleb Wilson enjoys ‘impactful’ visit to North Carolina

Five-star jumbo Wing Caleb Wilson enjoyed an impactful visit to North Carolina this past weekend for the Duke game along with fellow five-star Jasper Johnson. The 6-foot-9 Wilson is ranked the No. 6 overall prospect in the Class of 2025, per 247Sports.com. “The visit was great,” Wilson said after watching No. 3 North Carolina beat rival No. 9 Duke.
