Colorado's Jack Bailey Enters Transfer Portal, Eyes New Beginnings Post-Buffs Tenure

With Jack Bailey’s choice to enter the portal as a graduate transfer on March 6, Coach Prime’s Colorado football club lost, as Buffaloes Wire’s Jack Carlough put it accurately, a dependable starter in the offensive trenches.

“During his lone season at Colorado, Bailey allowed only one quarterback hurry and had three games with a PFF pass-blocking grade above 80,” Carlough began by stating, “The Buffs’ offensive line certainly struggled for much of 2023, but Bailey proved to be a reliable starter for head coach Deion Sanders.”

After former Buffs offensive line coach Bill O’Boyle left to join San Diego State after originally following Sean Lewis, BuffZone’s Brian Howell noticed in December that Bailey might be a flight risk.

Howell said, “Starting guard Landon Bebee has used up all of his eligibility, while Christian-Lichtenhan and Wells are now on the move. That leaves, as far as starters go, guard Jack Bailey and tackle Savion Washington.” They both left Kent State to follow line coach Bill O’Boyle and offensive coordinator Sean Lewis to CU.

It seems doubtful that O’Boyle will return after Lewis accepted the position of head coach at San Diego State earlier this week. It is unknown at this point whether Bailey and/or Washington will return to CU.

Savion Washington is the final OL from 2023. Colorado football starting lineup
The only Buff left from Coach Prime’s original starting offensive line is Savion Washington. It’s easy to understand why when Deion Sanders exposed the group and essentially tossed them aside like they were nothing before the season even ended.

“The big picture, you go get new lineman,” Sanders prefaced back in October after CU’s loss to UCLA before saying, “That’s the picture and I’ma paint it perfectly.”

Bailey got that picture. It’s not clear how long Washington will hold on, but he’ll either be a success story or the last holdout who didn’t make it two a second season in Boulder depending on how the next few months go.
