he Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to trade star player L’Jarius Sneed to the Tennessee Titans, with the two-time Super Bowl champion set to receive a huge new contract.

On Friday night, the Chiefs and Titans agreed on a deal for Sneed. In return, Tennessee will give a 2025 third-round pick and a 2024 seventh-round pick swap for the 27 year old. Sneed, who was tagged by the Chiefs earlier this season, will sign a new contract with Tennessee. This will make him one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the NFL.

he deal will be finalised once Sneed passes his physical. He is expected to sign a four-year deal which could change the market for defensive backs. Earlier this month, the Chiefs put the non-exclusive franchise tag on Sneed. This allowed him to talk to other teams who could negotiate a trade with Kansas City.

The Titans made their move after Sneed didn’t allow any touchdowns in 462 coverage snaps, playing at an All-Pro level throughout the season. In 2023, Sneed had the best year of his career since joining the league as a fourth-round selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.

According to Next Gen Stats, Sneed impressively covered the opponents’ top receiver on at least 65 percent of the snaps seven times – a record that led the NFL. Only once did a receiver catch more than two passes when playing against Sneed. Las Vegas Raiders superstar Davante Adams managed to grab five catches for 73 yards on seven tries in Week 12.

Sneed is off to Tennessee where he will team up with experienced cornerback Chidobe Awuzie. Awuzie signed a three-year deal worth £27million ($36 million) at the start of free agency, and the pair will start outside with Roger McCreary as the nickel to try and defend against players like C.J. Stroud, Trevor Lawrence, and Anthony Richardson in the AFC South.

The Titans’ signing of the cornerback is their latest move as they aim to be competitive in 2024. General manager Ran Carthon signed center Lloyd Cushenberry and guard Saahdiq Charles to strengthen the offensive line for second-year quarterback Will Levis.

Levis also got new offensive weapons in receiver Calvin Ridley and running back Tony Pollard through free agency. The Titans also improved their defense by signing former Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Kenneth Murray.

Once the trade is done, Sneed’s move to Tennessee will free up £15 million ($19.8 million) against the Chiefs’ salary cap as Kansas City gets ready for an unprecedented third straight Super Bowl title.
