Just In: 26 year old QB agrees contract extension with Miami Dolphins worth $53.4 million
The Miami Dolphins have recently inked a one-year deal with Super Bowl champion wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. However, one major contract that is now reportedly moving ahead is between Pro Bowl and Passing Yards Leader of 2023, prominent quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa and the Dolphins.
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, “I am told the negotiations have begun in earnest the Dolphins have at least got the ball rolling. Typically what happens is, team makes a contract offer, player counters and then they go from there and see if they can find a sweet spot.”
He further continued, “The next three months will be crucial. My sense is this has not graduated to something that’s imminent, but the Dolphins are pretty committed to this. Their actions this offseason say that they are going to pay him. They scaled back a lot of the big-money contracts, cutting players like Xavien Howard, so they want to do this. They wanted Tua to prove that he could have a fully healthy season and produce and he did that.”
The Dolphins underwent changes during the offseason and released multiple players. The squad acquired linebackers, safeties, tight ends, one center, and defensive tackles. The squad, as per BR, has also re-signed players, including wideout Braxton Berrios and has also acquired Mohamed Kamara and Chop Robinson, along with offensive tackle Patrick Paul, among others.
Tagovailoa was selected up in the 2020 NFL Draft in the first round as the 5th pick by the Miami Dolphins. He led an incredible 2023 campaign and threw his career high in yards, interceptions, and sacks taken. His completion percentage was 69.3% and finished his season with 29 touchdowns.
The Dolphins, amidst multiple changes, will spearhead the next NFL season with a center team consisting of Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, Raheem Mostert, Jaylen Waddle, De’Von Achane, Jaelan Phillips, and Jalen Ramsey.
