Las Vegas Raiders Have Sad News To Disclose
In the midst of what has been somewhat of an overhauling offseason, the Las Vegas Raiders have a sad announcement to make today.
Per reports from late on Sunday night, it has been announced that former AFL Champion and 1st ballot Hall of Fame inductee, Jim Otto, has died, Adam Schefter reports.
Otto, who is an 9 x All AFL (the pre-cursor to the ‘All-Pro’ teams post AFL-NFL merger) and 9 x AFL All Star (the pre-merger ‘Pro Bowl’) center, is probably not a household name from the past for the majority of contemporary football fans.
However, for those who study the history of the game, Otto is without question one of the greats at his position. Not only is he one of only 2 1st ballot Hall of Fame centers, along with the Miami Dolphins’ Jim Langer, but played 15 consecutive seasons for the Las Vegas Raiders, a total of 210 straight games – ranking as the 10th longest streak all time.
Although Jim Otto never won a Super Bowl; the Raiders’ first came 2 years after Otto’s retirement; he did help lead Las Vegas to an AFL Championship in 1967 over the Houston Oilers.
An offensive lineman who is an unequivocal legend of the game and a stalwart at center for the best part of 2 decades; here is to remembering truly one of the unsung greats of the game.
