27 year-old star joins Dundee United on two-year deal
Subway Socceroos defender Ryan Strain has signed a two-year contract with newly promoted Scottish Premiership side Dundee United following the expiration of his contract with St Mirren.
The 27-year-old’s addition to Jim Goodwin’s squad is a massive coup for the Terrors, with Strain to remain in the Scottish top-flight for at least another two seasons.
The Australian international, who has six caps to his name, spent the past two campaigns with the Paisely-based club where he amassed 64 appearance, five goals and 10 assists across all competitions.
Prior to his move to Scotland, the right-back played at Maccabi Haifa in Israel following four years in the Isuzu UTE Men’s A-League with Adelaide United.
Following his capture, United boss praised Strain’s quality: “The signing of Ryan is a coup for the club, I’m thrilled to get the deal done.”
“Throughout the past two seasons, he has been one of the country’s best performers in his position – his set-piece delivery is first-class, he rarely loses a defensive duel and possesses an infectious work rate. Furthermore, he has experience on both the European and international stage which he can pass on to other members of the dressing room.”
Strain was part of the Graham Arnold’s recent squad for the June FIFA Window, playing the full 90 minutes in a 2-0 win over Bangladesh and was an unused substitute against Palestine in Perth.
He becomes the third Socceroo in recent times to play at Tannadice Park after Aziz Behich and Mark Birighitti.
