Midfielder signs a 2 year contract deal with Grimsby worth…

The Mariners are managed by former Wrexham defender Dave Artell while ex-Reds captain Shaun Pearson is the assistant head coach at the League Two club.

Confirming his interest in signing attacking midfielder Davies, Artell told BBC Radio Humberside: “I think that’s fairly common knowledge now.

“We’re hopeful it will get done, but until it gets done, there’s no point – it’s just speculation. We’ve got to agree to the terms and everything else and if we do, then I’m sure it will help.”

Wrexham-born Davies, who hails from Coedpoeth, was an unused substitute in Saturday’s 1-0 pre-season friendly over Fleetwood Town at The STōK Racecourse

Despite scoring twice on the Reds’ North America tour, Davies’ future may lay elsewhere with boss Phil Parkinson telling BBC Sport Wales: “There’s a possibility Jordan will still be going out on loan because I feel he’s at the stage of his career where he needs to be starting games.

“We’ve been looking at a few options for him and working at that.

“If that happens then great, if it doesn’t then he’s an integral part of the squad.”

In his after-match press conference on Saturday, Parkinson, who made Plymouth defender Dan Scarr his sixth signing of the summer, added: “We’re working on a couple of things and a couple maybe going out on loan as well so we’ve got to balance the numbers, which we’re trying to do.

“We’ve just tried to replace the players that left. Three centre halves left, we’ve bought two in with Lewis and Dan. Obviously Youngy (Luke Young) left, we’ve brought George Dobson in, so we’re just trying to piece things together so we’ve got depth, but obviously better than what we had last season.

“So hopefully we can add a little bit more to the quality we’ve got and make sure the squad is ready to compete at this level.”
